Each year, Tinte Cellars selects a few nonprofits to receive a portion of all wine sales. Ten percent of all wine club sales and 5% of all retail sales and is split equally between the recipients.
This month we want to introduce you to our newest nonprofit partner, the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic (YVFWC).
Q. What is the mission of the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic?
A. “Together we are dedicated to lead, with the courage to care, the determination to promote personal growth, and the compassion to champion the cause of those who have no voice.”
Q. Tell us about the eastern Washington services?
A. What initially began as one location in rural Toppenish, Washington over 40 years ago has now expanded to include 17 medical, 12 dental and 7 pharmacy locations throughout eastern Washington. In 2020, YVFWC provided 510,531 visits to 126,797 patients in eastern Washington. Of the patients served: 17% were uninsured, 59% were on Medicaid, 65% were Hispanic/Latino, and 40% were best served in a language other than English. For the majority of the patients we serve, there are few to no other options for health care. At YVFWC, we aim to provide a comprehensive primary medical, dental, and behavioral health care services to all who walk through our doors regardless of their background and ability to pay.
Q. Tell us about how the partnership with Tinte Cellars will make a difference in Washington State?
A. As we continue our partnership with Tinte Cellars, the funds donated will be used to support these two projects in Washington State:
Mobile Health Care Services – Our Mobile Medical and Dental Services deliver health care and educational services to people that live in remote areas and have little access to services. Our Mobile Units collaborate with schools and early learning centers to bring preventative dental and immunizations to their students and communities. Additionally, our Mobile Units are used to support COVID-19 screenings and services at health fairs and community education events.
Telehealth – To help ensure that our vulnerable populations have access to their health care provider, we quickly implemented telehealth technologies during the COVID-19 pandemic. These primary care services are necessary for our large underserved, low-income populations for many reasons, i.e., continuity of care, but most importantly to reduce emergency room visits, leaving hospitals able to triage real emergencies. Donations will help offset our crucial telehealth investment as we continue to serve the neediest populations in states where we provide services.
Q. What does it mean to partner with businesses like Tinte Cellars?
A. At YVFWC, we don’t take partnerships lightly. We ensure our partners have the same passion and commitment to the communities we serve as we do. When approached regarding partnership it was clear to us that Tinte Cellars was as committed to supporting farmworkers and their families as we are. Tinte Cellars embodies the culture of giving back and truly understands how the people and cultures that exist in our region are what make it special.
Q. If you could say one thing to our wine club members and customers whose purchases support your organization, what would you say?
A. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance,” at YVFWC we believe that is achieved when all patients and communities have access to high quality patient-focused health care.
